This oil painting workshop focuses on creating realistic portrait paintings, using modern techniques, principles, and aesthetics. The group will learn fundamental concepts and techniques that push the boundaries of realism and range from the importance of manipulating the viewer's perception to using reference material, style, and technique in such a way that the final Painting is more than the sum of its parts.
The group will also explore the relationship between realism and abstraction, and learn about the importance of both in creating interesting and engaging paintings. During this workshop, Alpay Efe will paint with the group, demonstrate and help in creating finished pieces of art. Participants are also encouraged to come with questions and to bring sketches, sketchbooks and finished works of art for individual critique.
This workshop will be made up of 5 days of painting, during the week we will also organise a couple of tours of some of Florence's most famous sites. The evening before the workshop starts we also invite participants to join us and Alpay for an aperitivo on a terrace above the studio, this will give you the chance to familiarise yourself with the location and get to know eachother.
This workshop will take place in a large light-filled studio space in the center of Florence. The studio is located in our favorite Florentine Piazza; Santo Spirito, one of the city's loveliest and most lively neighborhoods. Santo Spirito is the artisan center of Florence, located south of the river Arno in the Oltrarno district, it is full of bars, restaurants and boutique shops. Just a 5 minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio, all of Florence's main attractions are easily accessible.
