Workshop Description

Join us for an all-inclusive week of oil painting in the Tuscan countryside with David Cheifetz. During this art retreat, artists of all levels are welcome to join and learn to paint still lifes in oil. Participants will explore a rational method for composing a still life, and strategies for creating a strong sense of focus in their paintings. David will demonstrate techniques of oil painting with both the brush and the knife with an alla prima wet-into-wet approach. He will give regular demonstrations and one-on-one feedback throughout the week. Be prepared to learn lots of valuable information, and fully immerse yourself in painting for an entire week.

During this all-inclusive art retreat, meals will be home-cooked and eaten together in our large dining room or outside when the weather is nice. In the evenings participants will have free use of the grounds to explore, including the swimming pool, woodland, lake and olive groves. There is also a volleyball net, and a games room with table tennis and table football. During the week we will host some evening entertainment which everyone is welcome to join, such as a wine tour, pizza night, evenings around the fire pit and more..

David Cheifetz

Born in 1981, David is an internationally acclaimed and collected artist who continues to push the limits of contemporary realist oil painting. "Reflecting the language of dreams, these dark, hyperrealistic tableaux suggest bizarre and intriguing narratives. Cheifetz paints alla prima, an oil painting technique in which wet paint is applied to previous layers of wet paint. He works without detailed underpainting or studies, creating atmosphere through prominent, expressive brushstrokes and strong chiaroscuro." -Artsy.net

"I just finished a David Cheifetz workshop, and all I can say is WOW! David has a very unassuming way of teaching, that coaxes you to think about how best to apply his techniques to your work. I knew I would enjoy his tutelage, but I am blown away, trying to process all that I learned in just three days painting with him. I highly recommend Mr. Cheifetz's workshops for the beginner or advanced artist. It is so rare to find an instructor who shares their talents in a way that is easy to understand and apply in your own work." - Debra Keirce
