WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This week-long art retreat will be taught by Nick Runge and will focus on portrait painting in watercolour. Nick will demonstrate the choices he makes, and the chances he takes while painting a portrait from photo. Whilst the week will mainly focus on portrait painting, Nick will also take the students through his process of figurative painting and still life painting, with a look at different techniques, exercises and colour palettes. Nick will also paint alongside the students and give one-on-one feedback to each student as they paint.
During this all-inclusive art retreat meals will be home-cooked and eaten as a group in the dining room or outside when the weather is nice! Also included during the week will be an afternoon trip to the local town of Vinci and a wine tour and tasting at the venue.
THE VENUE
This workshop will take place at Agriturismo Streda, a converted farmhouse and winery located in Chianti, just a 5 minute drive from Vinci (the birthplace of Leonardo Da Vinci).
The agriturismo is located in the Tuscan hills, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, you can enjoy the stunning view whilst relaxing by the swimming pool, walking through the vineyards, or sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine.

NICK RUNGE
As a portrait/figurative painter, Nick works from life as well as photography. Describing his art as something close to “abstracted realism”, with an objective of expressing as much of the realistic human element of life as possible through a limited and often simplified approach to his rendering or brushwork. This gives an illusion of realism while, at the same time, breaking shapes and form down enough to have a close balance with abstraction.

If you book a private bedroom then you are very welcome to bring along a travel companion with you who will not be participating in the workshop.
We will happily assist in planning activities during the days for your partner, such as bike tours, trips to local towns, and walks around the surrounding countryside. Equally, your partner is very welcome to relax by the pool and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
