During this 5 day painting workshop, participants will paint from the life model under the guidance of Denis Sarazhin & Victoria Kalaichi. This workshop will focus on portrait painting and figurative painting (the upper-figure/torso).
The whole of the first day will be spent with Denis giving a demonstration, so remember bring your sketch books and make notes! For the rest of the week Denis and Victoria will be there to give critiques and demos, and express to the students their way of painting.

Please note that Denis and Victoria do not speak perfect English, but they are genuinely two of the loveliest people you will meet and can easily express their meaning to you, plus we will be on hand to help if any miscommunication's should occur.

The Studio
This workshop will take place in a large light-filled studio space in the center of Florence. The studio is located in our favorite Florentine Piazza; Santo Spirito, one of the city's loveliest and most lively neighborhoods. Santo Spirito is the artisan center of Florence, located south of the river Arno in the Oltrarno district, it is full of bars, restaurants and boutique shops. Just a 5 minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio, all of Florence's main attractions are easily accessible.

Denis Sarazhin
Denis was born in Nikopol, Ukraine in 1982 . He attended the Kharkov Art and Design Academy, graduating in 2008. Denis was awarded with the 1st Degree Diploma Award for Excellence in Painting from the Ukrainian Art Academy. Since 2007 he has been a member of Kharkov’s section of the association of Ukraine’s Artists’ Alliance. Denis has exhibited in many exhibitions around the world.
Victoria Kalaichi
Victoria was born in 1986 in the city of Ordzhonikidze in the Russian Republic of Alania. She graduated from the Crimean Art College in Ukraine in 2006. In the same year, she entered the prestigious Kharkov State Academy of Arts and Design. She studied in the Portrait and Genre Workshop of People′s Artist of Ukraine, Professor Ganotsky, and under Honored Artist of Ukraine, Professor Chaus
WELCOME
On Sunday 20th October we invite you to join us, Denis and Victoria for a welcome aperitivo near the studio, giving you the chance to familiarise yourself with the location and get to know each other. Classes will start on Monday 21st October and continue until Friday 25th October. Each day will last for roughly 6 hours. After class on the last day of the workshop we invite you to enjoy leaving drinks with us in the studio.

Brushes: A selection of oil brushes, various shapes and sizes.

Oil paints: Oil paints: Titanium White, Indian Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Orange, Madder Lake Rose Permanent, Manganese Violet Light (or Ultramarine Rose), Cobalt Violet Deep, Cobalt Violet Light, Ceruleum Blue, Cobalt Blue (or Ultramarine Light), Transparent Mars Yellow, Transparent Mars Orange, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Mars Black (or Ivory Black).

Canvas sizes: Portrait - 40 x 40cm (bring two), Figure - 50 x 60cm or 50 x 70cm (bring three). Due to the size of these canvases you might prefer to purchase them in Florence before the workshop.

Wood Charcoal
The paints listed above are the paints which Denis and Victoria will be using, you do not have to bring the exact same paints, you are wlcome to bring similar colours or a more limitted palette instead.

We will provide easels, damar varnish, rags, turpentine, brush cleaner and fixative.
