Workshop Description

Join us for an all-inclusive week of painting in the Tuscan countryside with Edwige Fouvry. During this workshop, participants will be invited to train their senses in observation and color, integrating the figure into an environment, in particular a landscape.
You will learn how to create a solid composition, understand lights and shadows, proportions, and explore textures and color palette. We will also look at how to organise a canvas in order to obtain an expressive and harmonious work of art.
Participants will be free to stay close to reality or to develop a more nearly abstract view. Painting sessions will take place en plein air, and in the studio, weather dependent. You can expect to paint from a live model, as well as reference material. This workshop is open to all levels of experience.

To help you progress in your own practice, Edwige will demonstrate, explain, and give you personal feedback throughout the week:

"I always let the intuition and expression play an important role in my painting process; this way you are invited to develop the figure more, or the landscape more, and you have the opportunity to bring more abstraction into your work."

This is a chance to focus on you and your art, you'll be living and working together among many other creatives, and alongside Edwige, with the opportunity to dive deep into each other's knowledge and experience - building relationships, whilst making the most of the surrounding nature in this Tuscan setting. This is a place where you have the opportunity to learn from some of the world's most inspiring contemporary artists, without judgement or competition, immersed in nature, so that your primary focus is to learn and create, whilst enjoying your time on this beautiful planet.

During this all-inclusive art workshop, meals are home-cooked by our wonderful Chefs Giovanna & Gabriele, and eaten together in our panoramic dining room, or outside with a view of the stunning landscape. After class you have free use of the Villa and grounds to explore. We host evening events; such as pizza night using our outdoor pizza oven, yoga and sound bath in the ballroom (which help to boost creativity), and a night of live music. Many of our evenings are spent around the fire, under the stars. If you need to unwind after class you use our sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Or if you prefer to explore you can wander through the woodland, walk, cycle or take the bus into town. And of course you are always welcome to continue practicing your art, sketching outside, or continue painting in our large Octagon studio, which is always open for you.

Edwige Fouvry

Edwige Fouvry was born in Nantes, France and lives and works in Brussels. She received her master’s degree from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre. Edwige has exhibited widely across Europe and North America.

Her paintings and drawings describe not the actual world but rather vibrant, magical, and sometimes cryptic interior realms. They are the product of her imagination and an intuitive merging of numerous sources, including childhood memories, photographs, and fleeting moments, feelings, and moods. Her landscapes - both with and without people - are rich, psychological terrains, often water-logged and overrun with flora and fauna.

She is represented by Dolby Chadwick Gallery, San Francisco.
