Join us for an all-inclusive week of painting in the Tuscan countryside with Ron Hicks. This will not be a regular art workshop, the intention is not to learn to paint like Ron. The purpose of this workshop is to aid you in finding your path, and to open up dialogue, exploring creative ways to meet this challenge. It’s about feeding the soul, and finding out who we are as artists - allowing that discovery to play a dominant role in what we intuitively express in our artwork. During the week you can expect to paint from life models, as well as reference material. Rather than giving daily morning demonstrations, Ron will give one demo during the week with the intention of showing you his process, not to copy from, but instead to give you ideas and inspiration which might help you on your own artistic journey. Ron will give one-on-one feedback throughout the week. Designed for intermediate to advanced students, this class is open to all levels of experience.
During this all-inclusive art retreat, meals will be home-cooked and eaten together in our large dining room or outside when the weather is nice. In the evenings participants will have free use of the grounds to explore, including the swimming pool, woodland, lake and olive groves. There is also a volleyball net, and a games room with table tennis and table football. During the week we will host some evening entertainment which everyone is welcome to join, such as a wine tour, cooking class, and pizza night.
This workshop will take place at Antico Borgo La Torre, a converted farmhouse and winery located in Chianti, 25km from Florence.
Originally a medieval tower, the structure dates back to the middle ages. Now an agriturismo, Antico Borgo La Torre produces it's own wine and olive oil. It is made up of 32 hectars of land, which include olive groves, vineyards, woodland, orchards, walnut trees, and a swimming pool.

Ron's career began as a representational artist with a traditional approach that closely resembled the style of the 19 th Century masters. His current body of work is a blend of all disciplines, marrying abstraction with realism, drawing on experiences and emotions to galvanize his thoughts, then transferring the collection of these to his substrate. Hicks uses texture, abstract passages and emotive movements to strike an emotional response and allow the viewer to derive at his or her own inference.
For more than 25 years, Ron has enjoyed a successful career with several sold-out exhibitions. He currently resides in Denver, Colorado with his wife Sharon and his work is represented and collected throughout the United States and abroad.
