Workshop Description

Join us for an all-inclusive week of oil painting in the Tuscan countryside with Carlos San Millàn. This workshop will explore Carlos San Millàn's painting process, focusing on how to achieve unity and coherence. Participants will practice useful methods, such as underpainting, and learn how to use chroma and light effectively, as well as different ways to use brush strokes, prints, and mark making in order to enrich and enhance your painting technique. This retreat will focus on painting possibilities, such as the interior and exterior of buildings, as well as plein air painting. Carlos will also include some discussion on drawing, color and light value concepts, and what to do when a painting isn’t working. All students will have personal attention as well as the opportunity to discuss their interests and goals.

During the week, meals will be home-cooked and eaten together in our large dining room or outside when the weather is nice. In the evenings particiapants will have free use of the grounds to explore, including the swimming pool, woodland, lake and olive groves. There is also a volleyball net, and a games room with table tennis and table football. During the week we will arrange some evening entertanment which everyone is welcome to join, such as a wine tour, cooking class, and picnic in the vineyards.
